Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is Manufactured in North Carolina (MNC)?
Manufactured in North Carolina is a searchable directory created to showcase the capabilities and innovations of North Carolina’s manufacturers to business-to-business markets nationally and globally. We want MNC to be your first source for finding and initially vetting new suppliers.
Who is eligible to enroll in MNC?
Any manufacturer physically located in the State of North Carolina (sorry other 49 states!) is eligible to enroll. We validate and approve every enrollee prior to publishing a new company’s profile.
How does my manufacturing company enroll?
From the home page or from the top menu bar available on any page, we have an option nicely labeled Enroll. By clicking on Enroll you will be taken to a page where you can begin to input your company’s information.
Thankfully, enrollment can take as little as one minute. If you are in a hurry, you can complete only the Contact’s First and Last Name, Company Name and Email. Upon submission, you will be sent a login and password, allowing companies to update their profile at any time.
Any words of advice for a newly enrolled manufacturer?
The more complete the profile, the merrier thou shall be. A complete and detailed profile not only assists visitors trying to find you via MNC’s amazing search capabilities, but also increases the chances your individual profile will appear on the highly-coveted first page of Google Search results out on the Internet.
What is the cost to enroll or to conduct a search?
Not a single dime! It’s absolutely FREE to join and for visitors to search for your next manufacturing partner. Thanks to the good folks at the North Carolina Rural Center and some other fine partners like North Carolina State Industry Expansion Solutions (IES), we have been able to maintain Manufactured in North Carolina at no cost to the manufacturers.
How do I search for a manufacturer?
We have tried to provide our visitors with a wide array of search options that will allow you to find the right manufacturer(s) for your specific need. For instance, visitors have the ability to enter a keyword (e.g., product, service, company name, brand, etc.) on several "Quick Search" text boxes located at the top of nearly every page on the MNC website.
Visitors also have the option to conduct an "Advanced Search" and find manufacturers through 8 available filters like specific materials utilized, quality certifications, traditional service markets and even geography within North Carolina.
Visitors can also begin your search by focusing on a specific industrial cluster of companies and then narrowing your choices from there.
As if there were not enough options, you are always welcome to contact us and we will be happy to find a suitable North Carolina manufacturer(s) for you.
What is a company profile?
Every company on Manufactured in North Carolina has an individual web page (aka profile) that each manufacturer populates with general information about their location, products and services, along with information regarding their manufacturing capabilities, traditional service markets, special business or quality certifications and even current export markets to name a few. Each profile contains contact information, as well as links to the company’s website and social media outlets as well.
How do I contact a company?
On each company profile there is a section entitled "How to Reach Us" with a red "Contact Company" button just beneath. By clicking on the "Contact Company" button, the appropriate contact’s name, phone number, email and website will be revealed.
You are welcome to then contact the manufacturer(s) directly as you see fit – and be sure to mention you found them via Manufactured in North Carolina (we are a free service, so it’s the least you could do).
We are sorry to have this extra step, but we don’t exactly want robots "spamming" our fine North Carolina manufacturers, only real people with real manufacturing needs.
Who manages MNC?
A hardworking team of the finest talent from North Carolina State Industry Expansion Solutions (IES) has organized, helped to fund, built and marketed Manufactured in North Carolina since its inception in late 2011.
What is NAICS and how is it used?
The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) is a 2- through 6-digit hierarchical classification system, offering five levels of detail. Each digit in the code is part of a series of progressively narrower categories, and the more digits in the code signify greater classification detail. The first two digits designate the economic sector, the third digit designates the subsector, the fourth digit designates the industry group, the fifth digit designates the NAICS industry, and the sixth digit designates the national industry.
Each Manufactured in North Carolina enrollee is classified by the 3-digit NAICS code for manufacturing establishments (311 – 339), forming the main building block for a visitor’s search to find the right manufacturer.
How do I provide feedback to MNC?
We love feedback and welcome your suggestions on how to improve MNC, as well as notes on your general use of Manufactured in North Carolina. The easiest way to reach the MNC team is via the "Contact Us" link on the bottom of every page.
